Ep432. The CEO Code, Part 2: How to Take Back Control of Your Time. Angus Pyke
💼 Episode Summary: The CEO Code, Part 2 – How to Take Back Control of Your Time
If you’ve ever looked at your calendar and thought, “I’m flat-out… but nothing is actually moving forward,”—you’re not alone.
In fact, it’s one of the most common frustrations I hear from chiropractors who’ve been in practice for a few years. You’re booked solid, working hard, and still feel like you’re falling behind. The reason?
You’re spending too much time in the wrong zone—and not enough time leading like a CEO.
In This Episode, You’ll Learn:
- Why most chiropractors spend 90% of their time in just one time zone (and it’s the one that keeps them stuck)
- The 3 Time Zones every chiropractor must manage to build a high-impact, sustainable practice:
- Patient Time – booked and busy, but only maintains the practice
- CEO Time – where strategy, systems, and future growth live
- Personal Time – rest, family, recovery—the fuel for it all
- The Sunday CEO Reset—a 30-minute weekly habit that creates space for intentional leadership
- A simple filter to decide whether a task is CEO time or just more technician work
- Why upskilling your technique (while valuable) doesn’t belong in your CEO block
- How just one 45-minute block each week can begin to shift your entire experience of practice
What Counts as CEO Time (And What Doesn’t)
CEO time is not just admin or catch-up work. It’s high-leverage time spent working on the business, not in it.
Here’s how to know if you’re focusing on the right things:
 What Counts as CEO Time:
Focus on the five core CEO responsibilities:
1. Vision & Direction – Planning your next quarter, revisiting your goals, clarifying your ideal patient
2. Marketing & Visibility – Reviewing your new patient sources, planning workshops, writing video scripts
3. Financial Health – Understanding cash flow, tracking break-even, meeting with your accountant
4. Team & Culture – Planning team meetings, reviewing KPIs, preparing for performance conversations
5. Systems & Processes – Documenting workflows, building reactivation campaigns, onboarding processes
 What Doesn’t Count:
These might be important—but they aren’t CEO-level work:
• Watching adjusting seminars or studying chiropractic technique (Technician Time)
• Answering emails or managing the appointment book (Admin Time)
• Designing social media posts or editing videos (Execution Time)
• Reactively catching up on things you forgot (Overwhelm Time)
Quick Filter:
“Is this improving the business—or just improving me?”
If it’s not aligned with one of the five CEO priorities, it’s probably not CEO time.
Real-World Analogy: Bezos the Fighter vs. Bezos the Architect
Early in his journey, Jeff Bezos did everything—packed boxes, fixed bugs, answered emails. But Amazon scaled because he didn’t stay there. He made the shift from being a fighter in the trenches to becoming an architect of systems and strategy.
Most chiropractors stay in “fighter mode” far too long.
This episode helps you make the shift to architect mode—before burnout forces your hand.
Reflection Prompts
Take a few minutes after listening to consider:
• Which time zone currently gets the majority of my attention?
• Have I blocked time this week to lead, or am I just reacting?
• Am I confusing professional development (adjusting seminars, science podcasts) with true CEO-level leadership?
What to Do Next
Don’t overhaul your entire calendar. Start with one habit: the Sunday CEO Reset.
Protect a single block of CEO time. Choose one priority that supports vision, systems, or marketing.
And treat that time like it matters—because it does.
Coming Up Next: Vision & Direction
In Episode 3 of The Chiropractic CEO Code, we’ll dive into the first of the five core CEO responsibilities: Vision & Direction.
You’ll learn how to set a clear course for your practice, make better decisions, and avoid getting stuck in “busy work” that leads nowhere.
